About Xtndr

Xtndr

Xtndr is an extension for your Palm Treo smartphone. It features the innovative Launch Pad that now allows you to assign even more applications to the application buttons on your device than before. You hardly ever have to use the application launcher again! It also features a customizable info pop-up that can show you all kinds of information, including but not limited to the current time, the phone and bluetooth statuses, and the number of unread SMS and email messages. This handy info pop-up can also replace the system default Keyguard. But Xtndr doesn’t stop there. In addition to all this it lets you customize the alternative character selection system that is provided when you press the Alt key.

Feature Tour

Info Pop-Up

All the information at the touch of a button.

You know the situation: You just want to cast a quick glance at the time, so you pull your Treo out of your pocket (or whereever you keep it), press the power button and—well, the default keyguard shows the time in some tiny font, that really isn’t suitable for a quick glance. Enter: Xtndr.

Or maybe you just want to check some vital information, such as an upcoming appointment, the battery charge of your Treo or whether there is unread e-mail in your inbox. Enter: Xtndr.

The Xtndr info pop-up provides you with all the information you need at a glance. And best of all, it’s configurable, so you can tailor it to your needs.

Launch Pad

Launch anything—anywhere—anytime.

The Xtndr Launch Pad

Most of you will use more than five applications regularly. So why is it that you can only assign five applications to the Treo’s application buttons? Enter: Xtndr.

The Launch Pad gives you quick access to any number of applications that you want to use. And it’s simple at the same time! The Launch Pad is a fast and intuitive way of launching applications and it can even open Desk Accessories (DAs).

Special Characters

Don’t let your Treo dictate the way you’re writing.

Entering Special Characters Using Xtndr

Typing on the Treo has so far been a pain for many international users. Accented and other special characters are not available directly through the keyboard, so you had to resort to the list of characters, that would pop up when you pressed the Alt key. But not only is this list not customizable, it doesn’t even include many of the characters you’d need. Writing Danish or Norwegian? You were out of luck—there was no Ø character. Writing Icelanding? Nope, no Ð, ð, Þ or þ for you. Furthermore, those characters that are available by default, are often placed in an odd order. Why does á come before ä on a German Treo, when it is much less frequently used? Enter: Xtndr.

Xtndr allows you to completely customize the list of alternatives shown when you press the Alt key. You can even assign shortcuts to frequently used characters, so to type the letter þ you could simply type t, press the Alt key and then h. With Xtndr you’re finally free to type accented international characters and use special symbols and alternate character forms.

Other Goodies

What else is good about Xtndr.

Xtndr General Preferences

You already know the major features of Xtndr, but this nice, little utility has even more: It also allows you to open the command bar that is otherwise inaccessible by pressing a combination of the Shift and Menu keys. It also allows you to instantly lock your Treo with a password by pressing the Option + Send key (the answer call button) combination.

The Bottom Line

So in short, Xtndr gives you a powerful replacement for the system keyguard that can display almost any information you’ll ever need to check, a flexible and fast way of launching any number of applications you can ever think of, simply the most powerful and customizable special and accented character input system ever seen on Palm OS and some more goodies, too!

System Requirements

We have tested Xtndr mostly on the Treo 680, but it should actually work on any Treo smartphone with at least Palm OS 5.4, i. e. the Treos 650, 700p and 755 should be compatible as well. If you have any issues with Xtndr on your device, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
